    Taevaskoja, on the banks of the Primeval valley of Ahja River, is among the most visited tourist attractions of Estonia. The most beautiful part of the Ahja Landscape Protection Area is made up of a sandstone outcrop and a primeval river. The legends of Taevaskoja talk about caves and secret passageways, devils and girls with flaxen hair and a golden comb.

    The beaver occupied natural forests of Taevaskoja are over 150 years old. The forests are well known for their richness of plant and animal species. With some good luck, one can meet in Taevaskoja a rare kingfisher with exotic feathers. On the banks of the Ahja river, it is possible to see the almost 40 t unique sand exposure.     Located near the primeaval valley is the Valgesoo trail. This path leads through the bogs, swamps, and other exciting places. You can get acquainted with the history of the area of Põlvamaa in Põlva Peasant Museum. It is possible to be exposed to a more modern past era in the Estonian Road Museum.
